Why is Year 7 NAPLAN so different from primary school?
Year 7 NAPLAN assesses higher-order thinking — the ability to construct an argument, analyse a text critically, and use sophisticated language conventions. These are skills many students haven't explicitly been taught yet, which is why targeted coaching makes such a significant difference.
Does the Year 7 score affect high school placement?
In some states and schools, Year 7 NAPLAN results influence class streaming and selective high school pathways. Even where they don't directly affect placement, the skills built through NAPLAN prep directly support stronger performance in Year 7 English assessments.
My child is already in Year 7 — is it too late to start?
